Vitamin C
Professor Linus Pauling a nobel prize winner for his efforts in the field of science and an eminent authority on vitamin C maintains that the use of this nutrient increases the body's production of collagen which has the capacity of strengthening the intercellular cement which holds normal body cells together, rendering them more resistant to damage from cancer cells. In controlled studies in a Glasgow hospital it was shown that vitamin C in doses of 10 grams daily improved the state of well being of the patients, relieved their pain and increased their life spans considerably. Some patients experienced complete remissions and were still alive several years after the experiments. Linus Pauling maintains that there is much evidence that increasing the intale of vitamin C significantly decreases the chances of the individual developing cancer. Vitamin C has anti-stress properties and stimulates the body's production of lymphocytes which are involved as part of the body's defence mechanism. At the Bristol Cancer Centre high doses of vitamin C are used, about 6 grams daily, combined with bioflavonoids which always occur with vitamin C in nature. This treatment has the action of invigorating the body's immune system and detoxifying toxic substances which enter the bloodstream, including carcinogens. Due to the shortage of vitamin C in modern foods and to the fact that primative man would have obtained several thousand milligrams of vitamin C daily from his food it may be wise to take Professor Pauling's advice and include several grams of vitamin C as a supplement in the daily diet.
