Towards a Better Diet

It is clearly advisable to avoid all junk foods and foods containing artificial additives, colourings or preservatives. Where possible, one should obtain organic foods grown without artificial sprays and pesticides. Natural foods can be inexpensive, since cereal grains, bean poroducts and vegetables in season are relatively cheap. Protein from plant sources ie. cereal grains, nuts, seeds and beans is quite sufficient to maintain health and if combined with low fat dairy products, would provide a nutritious and wholesome diet.

A word can be mentioned here about 3 particular foods which are not only outstandingly nutritious but extremely inexpensive. Wheatgerm is the heart of the wheat kernel and is the storehouse of nutients and essential fatty acids. It is a natural source of vitaamins and minerals, particularly vitamin E and can be sprinkled on breakfast cereals or other foods. Brewers yeast is an immensely nutritious plant food containing 40% protein, many vitamins, minerals and enzymes, particularly B complex, and is an outstandingly natural tonic. Brewers yeast and wheatgerm when given to labortory animals were shown to double their lifespan. The third food is blackstrap molasses which is loaded with vitamins, mineral salts and organic iron and can be taken off the spoon or made into a drink. These 3 foods are amongst the most nutritious available and posess curative and health giving properties.

Other simple health improving measures are as follows. Liquids and solids should not be consumed together at the same meal as the digestive juices required for digestion of food are weakened by the intake of liquids. Liquids should be consumed either half an hour before or 2 hours after a meal. It has been suggested that mixing protein and starchy foods at the same meal is not conducive to sound digestive health and it may generally be wise to avoid combining too many different kinds of food at one meal.

The adoption of a plant food / raw food dietary regime (with some concessions) to the intake of small quantities of animal foodstuff, if considered necessary) would do much to eradicate many diseases of civilization. Raw food contains living energies not found in dead flesh, and passes on its life force to the health of the individual. The use of natural foods can slow down the ageing process to its minimum pace, import a healthly bloom to the complexion and can inspire the individual with positivity, vitality and a zest for life. Furthermore the use of natural foods and the observance of natures laws would constitute the most significant stride towards the eradication of disease and ill health from the midst of humanity.

As a final word on this subject it should be mentioned that 70% of the bodys vitality and life forcw is used up by the bodys interanl workings, (the circulation and digestion of food for example), na donly 30% through physical activity. This is the reason that heavy meals are fatigue and sleep inducing. Food is converted by the vital force of the system into elements for energy and repair and as such, through the choice of small meals and eating what is required rather than what is desired, it is possible to liberate the bodys life force and vitality for the greater enjoyment of lifes other interests. It is intended that the adoption of a natural food dietary regime should increase the vitality and well being of the individual, removing the spectre of illness and pain in order that life should become more enjoyable and pleasureable. Health and vitality are not the main aim in life, they are merely a prerequisite to the enjoyment of life and are stepping stones in the pursuit of happiness and pleasure. Afterall, over whatever timescale, the gift of life would appear to have little other purpose than that it should be experienced and enjoyed to the full.
